Gogglebox
The BAFTA-winning
Channel 4 programme Gogglebox has families from all over the United Kingdom
sharing their thoughts on everything from reality shows to the latest news on
TV, all from the comfort of their own homes.
Gogglebox
has been a Friday night staple in my household for as long as I can remember. I
have basically grown up with the show. So, you can imagine how excited I was
when it was confirmed that we would be working with Baasit Siddiqui of the
Siddiqui family on some 4Schools Q&A sessions. Stay here, and I'll tell you
what happened.
More on
Baasit
Firstly,
here’s a bit more info on Baasit. He graduated with a degree in Business and
Information Systems from the University of Derby. After finishing his studies,
he began a career teaching business, ICT, and computer science to high school
students in Key Stages three, four, and five.
In 2012,
his career, as he knew it, would completely change. Ten years ago, a university
friend who worked at a production company messaged Baasit on Facebook and asked
if he would be interested in being a part of a new show they were creating. The
show, which has been compared to the popular 90s sitcom The Royal Family, would
have couch-bound families discussing the latest episodes on TV.
Rise to
fame
Baasit, of
course, said yes and quickly shot to fame along with his dad, brother and two
cats as Gogglebox became more and more popular. Baasit has since used his
experience in education to set up Siddiqui Education, which works with schools
in the Midlands area to raise the career aspirations of disadvantaged students
through the use of assemblies and workshops.
4Schools
and Baasit
Through
the 4schools project, we had the exciting opportunity to work alongside
Gogglebox star, Baasit Siddiqui, at two school events. The first of which was
at Caludon Castle school in Coventry.
Baasit
came and ate lunch with us in the canteen, which made the dinner ladies very
excited. They came over and asked...
" Is
he really that man from Gogglebox."
